Spread details about the magnitude and amount involved. Give information about land grabbers
Land grabbers even lied before the High Court to force officers to allow further misuse of land already illegally grabbed.Seven Court cases involving the land grabbers reveal suppression and distortion of facts. Documents reveal in particular that records were fabricated to claim that the officer's minor daughter got agricultural land granted by government.
It has taken ten years of persistent efforts by our Committee to finally pressurize the government to set up the mechanism required to decide land grabbing cases, get back the grabbed land and punish all those involved. The Joint Legislature Committee on land encroachment/grabbing in and around Bangalore submitted its two interim reports to the Karnataka Legislature in 2007 which was accepted by both the Houses. Thereafter, from 2007 to 2014, the Karnataka government made no efforts to get the President's assent to the Land Grabbing Prohibition Bill, 2007 ,in spite of several requests by our Committee. But after our Committee staged a dharna continuously for 39 days from September 2014,the government ultimately got the Bill signed by the President and the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Bill 2007 , became an Act in 2014. But again, the government which promised in October 2014 that 3 Special Courts as per the Act would be set within a month did not do so. Our Committee wrote several letters to concerned authorities in this regard and staged many protests.Ultimately, after our Committee protested in front of the Hon'ble Law Minister's office four times including the latest on 21.03.2016, after one and a half years after the enactment of the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Act in October 2014, the government issued a Notification dated 22.03.2016 appointing Chairman and Members to the Special Court to decide land grabbing cases. Our Committee thanks the government for realizing the seriousness of the issue and doing the needful. Our Committee also thanks all those individuals/organisations who supported us in the struggle to get the Act passed and implemented. Our Committee specially thanks the media for their support throughout the struggle. All those who have information about government lands being grabbed by creating fake documents can now approach this Special Court.
Press Note regarding delay in setting up administrative section for the functioning of the Special Court set up to decide land grabbing cases and regarding some persons with vested interest misleading the small encroachers about the Special Court and Anti Land Grabbing Action Committee.
